Advisory Board: What it is and its value for my Academy?
Here you will learn about what an advisory board is, how to find the resources need to work in tandem with your advisory board, and how to leverage your advisory board.
WHAT is an advisory board?
The governing body, made up of professionals in the various career pathways that tries to pull together business and community resources to support academies.
The advisory board members are volunteers that are giving their time, it is important to keep them engaged in your academy.
WHY is it valuable to you?
Help with the year of planning (YOP) by updating you on industry trends
Overlook curriculum, that the content is relevant and up to date
Coordinate work-based learning opportunities for students
They provide comprehensive, ongoing support to NAF academy staff and students by serving as ambassadors in their networks and communities to help create exciting new work-based learning and internship opportunities.
HOW can you leverage your board?
During YOP, when creating a board- who do you look for? How do you have these conversations?
Make sure to share with the advisory board the careers your students are interested in
Constant communication- update your advisory board with your academy's needs
Use your board for opportunities such as guest speakers, and job shadow opportunities.
